Oct 11, 2018 · After a dreary and rainy day, the sun rose behind the hills signaling a warmer day at Pueblo de Cochiti. In the mid-morning, when the temperature rose to about 50ºF, we headed to the nearby Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument for a hike. We were here in April of this year and was captivated by its fairy tale landscape.

The cone-shaped tent rock formations are the results of volcanic eruptions that happened 6 to 7 million years ago. The bands of layering volcanic material show grey, beige and pink-colored rock. Description The Slot Canyon Trail can be accessed from the Cave Loop Trail at an intersection about a half mile in. The Slot Canyon Trail continues to the right, and will continue to a narrow slot canyon. This area is quite picturesque, and many visitors will stop and take pictures through this section. The two main features of Tent Rocks are the rock formations and the slot canyons, both the result of erosion, mostly caused by water.
